Why Is Keeping Your House Clean So Important?

Messy floor

Though we all appreciate a clean house, at times we fail to completely understand just how important it really is.

Healthy Body

First of all, a clean house means a healthier life. It’s a place where you spend a lot of time, so messy dusty rooms can have a detrimental effect on your well-being. By cleaning your house regularly you get rid of the germs, which can suppress your immune system. Think of the horror of seeing a rodent or a cockroach in your kitchen. The cleaner your house is, the less are the chances of such unpleasant encounters. You improve the quality of the air you breathe and in its turn, it helps to keep the allergies and breathing problems under control. There are fewer chances to get a trauma because of tripping over the stuff on the floor, which is crucial if you have small children or elderly people living with you.

Keeping Fit

Cleaning your house you actually exercise. Not only does it help you burn calories, but it also provides you with much needed physical activity.

Healthy Mind

The health benefits are not restricted to how your body feels. A clean place makes it easier for you to relax, as it creates the aesthetic we as humans naturally prefer. Tidying your house helps to clean up your mind, to keep the things more organized both inside the drawer and in other areas of your life.

Brings Luck

According to feng shui principles, keeping your place tidy attracts luck and prosperity. Clutter creates low energy that is an obstacle for good things to enter your life.

  1. Make a habit of keeping your place clean on a daily basis. It’s easier to add small fixes at a time, rather than dedicating your whole weekend to uncluttering and doing all the chores at once. The less often you clean your place, the more it takes to get it tidy. Just as simple as that.
  2. Start with simple things like making your bed. It’s fast, it’s not physically demanding and it makes a huge difference.
  3. Rehang or put to laundry the clothes you wore before going to sleep. The piles of dirty clothes mixed with clean ones on your chairs or even right on the floor won’t help much when you need to get ready next morning.
  4. Make a rule of cleaning up either while you cook or straight afterwards. Spills on kitchen surfaces, a sink filled with dishes to capacity don’t create the homey atmosphere and take much longer to tidy the next day.
  5. Do your laundry several times a week, don’t wait for clothes to pile up. You won’t wash white and dark clothes simultaneously anyway, so make it a schedule. For instance, wash light colours on Tuesday and dark on Friday.
  6. Consider not wearing shoes in the house. It really helps to decrease the amount of dirt on the floors. To make it more of a fun, get yourself a few pairs of cool slippers to match your mood.
  7. Leave the products for a bit after applying them. Germs are not killed instantly, it takes some time. You don’t need to stick around it the room while waiting, go do something else and get back in 10-15 minutes. It saves time and effort, as you won’t need to be rubbing that much.
  8. Don’t ignore cleaning walls and ceilings. There’s dust on these surfaces, even if you don’t see it with a naked eye. No need to do this daily, but once in a fortnight is a must.
  9. Fold your dry towels and hang the wet ones properly.
  10. Order matters. Start with dusting and vacuum after everything else is done.

  • Sponges. Sponges are probably the most important and frequently used cleaning tool. It is recommended to have 2 separate sets of sponges for your kitchen and for your bathroom. That’s to prevent germ journeys from the toilet to the kitchen counter. Look for both bigger and smaller ones with soft and abrasive sides.
  • Cleaning cloths. Cotton or microfibre cleaning cloths are great for wiping surfaces, especially those ones which don’t need too much scrubbing.
  • Scrub Brush. There may be situations in which cloths or sponges aren’t enough. Scrub brush does magic on tough stains.
  • Toothbrush. Basically, it is a mini variant of a scrub brush for tiny details and spots that are hard to access. Reuse your old toothbrushes by disinfecting them and putting them back to work.
  • Squeegee. A squeegee comes in handy when you are dealing with cleaning windows or shower doors. A good squeegee will help you get rid of water drops or foam on glass surfaces in no time.
  • Lint roller. It is hard to imagine a more essential tool for everyday use at a pet owner’s home. Not only can you remove fluff from your clothes, but you can also easily clean sofas, carpets and lampshades with it.
